4 Things You Need to Know About ELDs and the Protest This Week

     1)  Q: What exactly IS the ELD Mandate?

A:  In its simplest form, an electronic logging device — or ELD — is used to electronically record a driver's Record of Duty Status (RODS), which replaces the paper logbook some drivers currently use to record their compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.

     2)  Q:  When do I need to worry about this?

A:   December 18th, 2017 the ELD mandate will take effect

     3)  Q:  I heard there is a trucking protest going on now.  What’s happening?

A:  A group of disgruntled Truck Drivers believe ELDs will inflate prices and hurt their industry and paychecks.  The founder of the Operation Black and Blue rally, Mike Faram, explained, “With this mandate coming into effect on December 18th, 2017, many trucks may be removed from service due to increased cost,”

     4)  Q:  How many people are involved in the protest?

A:   According to a poll on Overdrive.com, with over 3,000 participants, 46.31% are shutting down this week in solidarity, and 23.99% approve their efforts.
